Vhitavouri makes some excellent powders, not cheap though. 3N37 is a great pistol powder. Another (3N38 I believe) is capable of some amazing velocities in medium and heavy bullet 9mm loads.
I’ve always wanted to try VhitaVouri, it’s just tough to find locally. As a sub I use Alliant Power Pistol in my autos and even my .38 Spcl loads. Really great powder if you’ve never tried it. Accurate, clean and good velocity.

A Browning hi wall in 45-70 loaded with lighter bullets is fun shooting offhand at milk jugs @ 100yds.
No question where the bullet impact is.

Another good rifle powder is Reloader 19. It makes my 280 ackley improved work.
3 round 100yd. groups less than .325 if i do my part anyway.
If that gun puts a shot off target it was because of the nut loose behind the stock.

Have we selected a new captain yet?

Will do bud, safety is obviously paramount. And dad is bringing roofing nails so they get some good practice:D
[emoji106] Bring them some tin cans or soda cans. Fill them with some sand for the bottom and give the kids a chance. [emoji23]
Roofing nails are tough to hit. Lol

Lol! I do bring other targets for them and after the initial few volleys I give them a challenge. They get competing with each other and it’s a lot of fun to officiate. The nail shoot is at about 25 yds, not impossible but still tough with iron sights, even for the old man.

A .22 bolt action with a good quality 4x scope is a great teaching tool for young shooters.
Make each shot count.

Small squares of plywood with a smaller piece for a base is fun for kids.
Set them on a log or RR cross tie. When hit they fly off the log.
Much like pistol silloutte targets.
Kids like to see a target move when hit.
Plywood scraps are cheap and don't ugly up the area for years.

You can get the kids to make up their own plywood targets too.
You train them to use a hammer/nails this way and later on in life you might be able to put them to work around the farm.

I like targets that react too. Bringing Shoot n See, flipper steel, water bottles, a bunch of black walnuts from a yard tree and some bad tomatoes from our garden. Fun fun fun.

I like that plywood idea, I’ll definitely do that next time.

Plywood/wood is safe for close shooting, no bullet bounce back.
Heavy steel will send bullets back at you sometimes.
I had a .45 slug hit me in my front pocket slightly bending a car key.
Yes i did flinch on the next few shots i took!

Watching kids grin when they hit a target is rewarding to me.

The Grandkids loved the "quarter" shoot, and if the hit they had a souvenir!

RL 19 and RL 22 are both nice powders, but I stopped using them for hunting rounds because they are more sensitive to temp changes than IMR powders.
