Sounds like a painful one to me. I have a Glock 22 .40 that I Frankensteined together with used parts and an LWD barrel. With a 175 grain lead truncated cone at 900 fps its like having a 15 shot .44 Special.

My tolerance for recoil grew exponentially when I owned a S&W 500. My “Light” loads were a 350gr XTP @ 1850fps. Never tried the famed Sierra 400gr. loads. That thing was stupid...lol!

The skynyrd/nugent and deep purple concert I went to in 01 was the sh!t.

I went to that one too here in KC! The back drop that Skynyrd had of the Merican flag changing to the Confederate flag with the lightning was slick.
And of course sweaty Teddy blowing up a guitar was cool.

Yes it is. The only handgun I’ve ever fired where recoil was felt in the shoulder. And to think you can load up to a 700gr hard cast for it, that’s heavier than a 12ga slug.

I'll stick with my Marlin 1895. A 405 grain lead slug at blackpowder velocity will neatly kill anything in North America that needs killin'.

I have both a Model 71 in 348 Win and a Browning repro of the Model 95 in 30-06 … and ditto what you said for both of them.

My Uncle collected lever action Winchesters, and regularly hunted with a Model 95 in 30-40 Krag with a 28" barrel and hot hand loads (the lever action 95 was stronger than the bolt action Krag).

But every now and then he would hunt with his other collectables, including and original Mdl 95 in 405 Win and a Mdl 86 in 50-110.

Love me some Winchester rifles. I have a very modest collection myself. I’d love to try a Model 71 someday but so far all I’ve acquired is Model 70’s and 94’s. Choosing which rifle I hunt with for the day is always a 10 minute process...lol!

Model 95’s are beasts! Very cool rifle.

Yea, a very strong action and a lot of versions of it. My Uncle also had a Take Down.

It was also designed for military service, and was adopted by other counties (more were made in 30 Russian than any other caliber), and saw a lot of use by the Border Patrol and in our military in the Rough Rider days.

For those who don't know, the 30-40 Krag was our military cartridge, it replaced the 45-70 and was in service until replaced by the 30-03, which morphed into the 30-06. (1903 and 1906 versions).

One is also used by Hugh Jackman in the movie Australia.

It is very fun. I have a 9x25 Dillon barrel for it. Pushes 124gr boolits to 1550 fps. Then I can throw the 4.6" barrel in it and push those 175gr you speak of at 1350.

My recoil tolerance is insane. My varmint rifle is a 300 win mag. 338 WM for deer. I've shot a 375 H&H , 416 Ruger, 460 Wby Mag, and the CQB Barret M82.
