got a dumpster-found poulan 306A that fires with prime. tearing it down I see that it sat for a number of years with a tank full of fuel. I say that because of the brown stuff I've been scraping off. also, conjecturing that it was corny fuel because of the corrosion present. who knows. anyway, I've scraped and wire brushed most of the crap and corrosion off and wondering:
1. what fluid can I use to neutralize the corrosion - vinegar? presently soaking in non-ethanol straight gas
2. what is a good tank lining paint?
3. do I even need to line the tank ($$$$$$$) if I get it cleaned good?
thanks for the plethora of upcoming responses.

If you run ethanol free gas you don't really need to coat. Just clean it up good.

I'm not saying it's not great to do it... just not as big a deal.

alot of the tank sealer stuff i looked into for a tractor gas tank had bad reviews as it would last a couple years then peel off and where the petcock connects would be a area uncoated

i filled with water a couple times and used a plasma cutter to open it up this is how much rust i sanded off the tank it would clog the petcock about every 5 minutes before now no problems

I've used Red-Kote as well, good stuff. The tank on my Allis Chalmers C, had some surface rust and some pin holes here and there. I closely followed their instructions, and it sealed the tank up great. No leaks and nice looking even finish.
