By saying hard to start I mean: I have to pull the cord 10 to 12 times before it farts. Then a couple more til its running. I take a lot of crap from my friends. At about 4 pulls, they all start saying "Stihl pullin".
Most of them have Husky saws. They start in 3-4 pulls.
What are you running for gas and oil?

How long has it been since the carb had a refresh. More than a few years and it may "START" to get stiff, Not noticeable at first, but then after a few more years it ends up not pullin' enough fuel to start easy. One of those "DUH MOMENTS" after the realization. Just a thought and YUPP I get a slap of that every once in a while. Check the filter for kicks and giggles while yer dinkering.

Ok I misunderstood you. Most complaints I’ve heard have been people that couldn’t pull them over.
Make sure the chokes are closing the whole way and carb diaphragms aren’t stiff or swollen.

AND when You do the carb kit do a pressure test for leak down and pop off pressure check. Husky/Jonnie 359/2159 needs more than most ?15lbs? as per Tree Monkey UT Video

Would a saw run well if it needed a carb kit? My take is that it runs well, just a PITA to start.

I have a MS460 that is acting up. It runs great after it starts. Give it a few more years and a recoil or something and then PONDER the subject. My 460 is starting to take 2 or 3 pulls after it is warm then sets a bit.
And before CAT525 Jumps in it happens to my Jonsereds too. It's the gaskets and time whether Zama-Walbro/Tillotsen

You flew right over my commentt so here goes again How long has it been since the carb got a fresh Kit. Mainly the Metering diaphragm and fuel pump. And what color fuel pump is in it.

I suspect he’s got saws with Zama carbs. Their black plastic type pump diaphragms swell badly in the pump chamber area and get to the point that the pulse can barely activate them, especially at cranking speeds, because crankcase pressure won’t fluctuate as much without the momentum of the air during operation.

. Somethings not right. Chokes not closing well enough, you could be missing hearing the first pop on choke flooding it, bad tunes, maybe just not enough umph in the pull. I use mostly several model Stihl saws 3 to 7 pulls to get 1st pop is most usually in average weather . Often they have set an extended time also. Extremely cold add a pull or two usually. I have 1 026 the choke is difficult to get fully closed. If i can keep my thumb down on the choke it may pop in 6 to 10 . Without the extra thumb pressure it might take 20 pulls on cold starts . Worse in cold weather. If i take the filter off and close the carb with my thumb , 1 or 2 pulls it will pop.
I sincerely think the choke not closing off enough air is usually the primary cause of the older model Stihls not firing off in fewer pulls. My 026 is believe the fit of the switch cam into the tank handle is worn and there's enough slop it's not pressing the choke flap tightly closed. On top of that the choke flap fit i think is less then perfect on this and many other saws that start hard cold.

The 311 I was working on tonight fired in 2 pulls.
Yeah, the 026 style choke is a joke.

Those 026 control levers will sometimes keep the throttle open too much as well as the choke. I removed material in certain places on one to give it full range of motion. Choke closed tight and throttle plate at idle.

I appreciate all of the comments and advice, fellas. Trust me, this thread was not intended to stir chit.
I just get so frustrated....................and seeing my friends lighting a husky in 3-4 pulls doesn't help much

Hi Joe. Maybe change the fuel filters and check your diaphragms for being stiff
