The simple fact is Stihl dealers make their money on bars, chains, oil, and repair work. Yes the prices are high but so is electricity, taxes, insurance, and everything else.

Stihl is milking the cow till blood starts flowing because the cow does not kick them in their sacks.

I do not understand why Stihl products are considered superior to competing brands when they aren't.

But hey, each to their own!
Buy and use what fits Your needs, though stop complaining about the cost of Your own choices.

It depends alot on dealers, I don't care what I run, but have a top class stihl dealer 10min from me and a husqvarna dealer 5 mins away, customer service has a lot to do with it at the end of the day

My local Husqvarna dealer is a joke, even stated they don't care about the brand that their $$$ comes from CASE tractors.

The one Stihl dealer of three local to me is OK I guess.
But they stock only high demand consumables, and they give no rebate on volume whatsoever.
At least they are pleasant and try to get what I ask for.
And NO, I don't use Stihl products other than some odd consumables - the volumes I mentioned got shipped to the US.

For the brand of my choice I rely solely on myself and a Germany based Dolmar dealer of my choice.

For us, it is because Stihl saws are on contract and we get a pretty good deal on them. We don’t get a discount on any parts/accessories on the new contract like we once did though. The dealer I use for parts is not the one we get saws from and they usually discount parts for us since I also get all of our seed/ag supplies from them as well.

Of course it does but sadly Stihl corporate has given up on that concept from their business model. They are selling out to box stores like all the others did

and new powerheads. Husqy and certainly Echo doesn't charge as much.
Unless something has dramatically changed that is simply not true.

Well, as far as Echo goes, they use Oregon chains and probably Oregon made bars, so that just leaves oil, repairs, and half price of Stihl powerheads, and they still make it.

The local dealer price on a 33RS-72 is $46.99 and $50.99 for a 33RS-84. That is before the communist tax.

Yeah they make their money on chains, bars, and repair work , not powerheads

It is amazing what Stihl corporate has done once they have ran out the regional distributors. Once they got that done they put the hurt on the mom and pop shops by having sex with box stores and Deere.

I'm new here so...it's beyond disappointing to see what goes on in retail today. I left Business School one night during a lecture on "The Honesty of the Market" and went back to the Auto/Race Car Shop the next night and worked for decades thereafter. I've watched Stihl's prices for at least the last 15 years and sadly their business practices...just sad. Maybe I'm just getting older and cheaper...:/

If you could compare their advertising budget I think that would explain the difference.

Monday a gentleman stopped by to buy a new 462 Arctic. I had a array of new Stihl bars and chains laid out also in "light" and standard. I gave him the retail price and my heavily discounted cash price

He passed on bars but bought the saw.
