I should check the stihl dealer in the town i work in. Mabe he is cheaper. Thats all he does ther is just small engine stuff. The dealer fve mins from home id a jd tracktor dealer. They dont have much to do with saws other then selling them.

I just tried to buy a 72 dl loop at a saw shop I was visiting. Apparently they didn't stock RM chain, which I want for this project. They said they could sell me a loop of RS for $28 or Carlton semi chisel for the same price.

$28 for a loop of Carlton made the Stihl sound reasonable. Needless to say, I didn't buy any 3/8 chain...

With the exception of 14" loops for my two 200T's the only Stihl chain I ever bought from a Dealer was 42 bucks for a 24" .404 chisel which I have on a super 44A McCulloch. That was nearly 20 years ago .

Now I have plenty of Stihl branded chains but they are salvaged from a trimmer buddys tool boxes from when his pack of idiots cut a rock or try and cut a chain link fence .BTW you can go right through a fence,no problem --once .

Just looked a receipt from last week. 84 DL Stihl RS was $26.50 each (USD). They buy them pre made from Stihl and spin them if they are out. I bought 4 for work and they had two factory and spun two. That price would make me buy something else.

This is the reason I don't use stihl chain. It's good stuff but all in all not much better than carlton which I typically use. I've got no problem with oregon just doesn't hold the edge for me as long as the others

That price does seem high. I just bought a loop of 72 DL and a couple of pieces of fuel line for $40. Idk what the fuel line cost through. I asked if it was only a few bucks and he smirked at me so I didn't want to know. Last time I buy OEM fuel line. That dealer will not spin loops of chain, only premade loops from Husky, Oregon, or Stihl and the Oregon is only slightly less, husky and Stihl are the same $. I'll be going back to my other dealer that sells Carlton for $1/bar inch +$2, 24" bar cost $26 for a chain.

I hate on stihl chain but only because of price if I could find it in the deal range where a 20 inch bar was less than say 15 bucks I'd run the hell outta it it is good stuff I've got a loop on my 346 that is still sharp from outta the box last winter to be fair it's only saw green wood but still that's pretty respectable I don't like the way it cuts right now way grabby. I think once it meets a file or grinder it'll be very nice Far as chisel goes to me personally it isn't worth it I do wanna try some 3/8 semi though to see if it can really hold an edge any longer in trashy wood hell I can get oregon to hold an edge very well in green wood so I still don't have much opinion on the stihl chain. Just know it's expensive
