I’ve got a 661 and a 660 both labeled magnum. One is missing a clutch, the other floods fuel out the muffler when trying to start. Local saw shop said the crank bearings were also bad in both and quoted $700 each to repair. I have someone interested in them for parts saws, but, have no idea what to ask for them. I’m not looking to get rich off them, but, don’t want to give them away either.

Are these high hour logging or milling saws? Could you attach pictures?
They are definitely high use logging saws. I got them out of a storage unit that was rented to a logger. I’ll try to get some pics, but, other than being faded, they don’t look terrible.

What a racket...a neighbor took his MS 311 into the shop that wouldn't start, shop said it had low compression and needed a new piston and cylinder - about $450 for the repair. I pulled the muffler, no score marks, but it did have low compression (super easy to pull over). Come to find out the oil seals popped out, so $10 for new oil seals, pulled the cylinder and verified both it and the piston are in great shape (even better now with the carbon removed).

You are looking at $15-$40 for a new clutch, say about $50 for two sets of bearings and oil seals and then either a carb kit or new carb for the flooding saw. Oh and new gasket kits for splitting the cases to get the new bearings in. Without looking at them, I would guess maybe $60 in parts each and they will be up and running (barring any other unforeseen issues).

Do the saws turn smoothly or can you grab the flywheel or clutch (the shaft on the one without the clutch) and wiggle them up and down or side to side. If they move that way then the bearings are bad - I had one recently that did that.

without pics its impossible to give you solid advice. get a few pics of each saw uploaded and you will get great advice and possibly even an offer or 3 to purchase them.
