After actually reading it It mentions "chipper" type chain. I'm not sure if that's an old school way of saying semi chisel ??
@Philbert may know.
'Chipper' is old school chain, still used on some harvester applications, since it keeps cutting, although slowly, in dirty wood. Hard to find for hand held saws, although, some of the Chinese manufacturers list it in their catalogs.
Full-Chisel looks like the number '7';
Chipper looks like a question mark '?'. Semi-Chisel falls in between.
As far as the angles go, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- the designs of the cutters have changed over time, using different shapes and angles. So you may need to file a different angle on one cutter, to get the same final, or resultant angle on another cutter (if that makes sense);
- saws have changed since some of those directions were printed; newer saws cut with much higher chain speeds;
- manufacurers' recommendations are based on 'average' users, cutting 'typical' wood, etc. They should be considered as starting points, rather than optimum for every wood species, saw, cutting situation, etc.

P.S. I would love to find one of those old Oregon chain vises!
