I just bought an 090 from the for sale section here. I plan to use the saw for milling and see how it does. Depending upon how it slabs wood, I may rebuild it this winter. My question is, I have the chance to get an OEM rebuild kit for the engine at about double the other kits. Is the Stihl kit worth the money? Thoughts from you guys are much appreciated.

You don't have to listen to me. But If I were you I would definitely go oem. Just have to have patience and money.

OEM. That's like asking if you should buy harbor freight or a quality product. Sure it might get the job done but how well and for how long. Why exactly does it need a new top end? We like pictures!

I would like to buy the kit and shelf it until the old girl is ready, or until I am haha. I am thinking the same thing!

If nothing is wrong with the cylinder consider an OEM piston kit, a lot less bucks for the peace of mind of having it on the shelf.

I've been looking into 090 kits lately because I'm trying to weasel an 070 lightning out of a buddy. I've seen a bunch of cylinders with the chrome worn through. I'd pull the top and inspect it before I bought anything or milled with it. I'm anal about my saws. It would get seals and a carb kit too.

You raise a good point. It's an old old 090, so I may do that. Esthetically I'm not anal, but running wise I am the same. I'll start looking for parts.

Oh... my saws can look crappy. I have a few wearing some pretty ugly parts but I have a hard time running time bombs
