stihl 064 case

what do u guys think of this case. .
the sealing surfaces are great, but the inside has craters like the moon.

That's pretty bad but I've seen worse put back into service. Are the seal and bearing pockets solid? From what I can see, they look ok.

I would consider sealing the crankcase up with something so further deterioration is discouraged. I have a 390XP case that was pitted
about that same amount inside but Glock37 powder-coated it and now it's good.

Maybe fill the voids with devcon and have it re powder coated? I don't think I'd leave it like that on my saw.

i got it for 38$ so whatever.

What causes this? Corrosion?
I have an old 064 case, one half has a bit of flaked paint but its in pristine shape, not a single dimple. (not for sale just comparing)
