Stihl 038 mag 2 decomp?

My sons friend baught a 038 mag2 that has a decomp hole that is pluged with a bolt. Is this the proper cylinder? He got took on this deal. Pistons all scored. Guy he baught it from is being a dic k to him about it.

I wish i had of went with them. I would have pulled the muffler first. The pics of the saw are from years ago when he baught it. Saw pic in add has a stihl bar. Came with a laser. Saw looks new in pics. Saw was dirty as heck when they got it.

What year did the 038 come with a de-comp if ever?

There is an MS380 still made outside the US if I am not mistaken. Akin to the MS650 that has a thick based 52mm 064-like cylinder with decomp.

If the seller is that big of a Dick to him, the jug isn’t likely OEM.

Depending on how the sale went down, he might be able to get a refund. Local police could help if the item was misrepresented. In addition, people listen up when you make them realize, especially in a non-threatening way, that you know where they live and you’ll bring it back to them for that refund.

Aftermarket and oem 038 mag cylinders , no decomp.
It could be a MS380 cylinder? but I'm not familiar with them.

Stihl ms381 has decom, ms380 just a 038 mag with fancy filler caps.. Probably an aftermarket chincom jug. They copy the 381 instead of 038 as I'm aware of.
