Gents, I finished a full rebuild yesterday, thought I’d share the process pictures from the point where it was cleaned and about to be resembled.

New Parts


Pressure testing the carb and setting metering lever

Drilling the tank by 1mm for improved fuel line

New 16mm bearing, clutch, rim and hardware

Gapping the plug to spec


Fitting the bumper strips having trued the clutch cover mating surface

Rebuild complete with 20” es light fitted.

Next, advance the timing, delete the base gasket, add a metal AF and open the muffkin.

Hi chaps, I have hand filed the new Stihl chain now and adjusted the rakers. Here is the log I’ll be testing it out on.

My prediction is, with a chain that self feeds nicer it won’t 4 stroke as much in the cut and 8c cooler it will require a little more fuel anyway. I recon I’ll be bang on the money.

Okk, so went out cutting with the hand filed chain:

the wood has a similar janka hardness to Hickory. It’s crazy hard, dry and dusty.

I haven’t used it since that day actually! Sadly I have no fire or firewood or land to collect wood on. I just rebuild them for fun

That seems wrong. Smart guy like you and all that hardwood in Oz. You need to find a guy who knows a guy ;-)
