talkin to my brother last night bout is 029 that i rebuilt carb on. Brother is NOT mechanically inclined. Anywho, the screen in the carb keeps getting clogged. Been rebuilt twice since i did it by his neighbor.
He tells me the neighbor says the weld inside the tank is flaking off and jamming the screen. First question i have is how is it bypassinf the tank fuel filter. Second question is wahat can be done to make tank qiit flaking.
Anyone ever heard of this? Could it be old fuel or crap in the tank; still got question one though?
The saw is 300 miles away so im going on second hand info
Anyone?

Only if it was exposed to air in the tank.
It the split or hole was submerged in fuel, no it wouldn’t

Happens sometimes the filter falls off, it sucks up debris, filter is replaced and the carb sucks in trash remaining in the hose.[emoji37]

Replace filter and use the Driver Ketchup bottle trick to suck fresh fuel up to the carb.

It's most likely that the filter itself is deteriorating. Changing out the fuel filter should solve the problem one way or the other. The filter would keep out any fines even if the tank was full of them. Or, the filter is not on the end of the line anymore...

This. I have run into 3 different saws with the old aluminum body filters with plastic like foam surround where the aluminum was corroding out and literally turning into a thick aluminum paste in the carb screen. My assumption is ethanol corroding it.

476E2824-E103-4F18-8A6C-329D6CE7EA9E.jpeg This is what came off the fuel filter. 3/4” to 1” long. Brother says you can see where the seam is rough; waiting on pix.
Anyone got a solid tank assembly. Can be ugly and preferably cheap

That looks like AM filter media or something......IDK.
The seam in the tanks look similar......but I doubt the seam is flaking.
The the tank halves are electro friction welded or some chit like that.
