Simmer down Buckshot, we are just talking about chainsaws. And I don't think I need any lectures on reading comprehension but we clearly have a different perspective.

Also, I'm willing to bet you'd have to beg Scott to port another 52e. Lots of epoxy and R&D on that job. Lol

If I get excited I'll be sure to let you know. I find it amusing that when the flaws in your argument are pointed out you immediately fall back to "it's just chainsaws". Evidently it wasn't "just chainsaws" when you were attempting to lecture me about how much wood you cut and how that justifies the money you threw at a 52e. I could care less if you spend money on porting a $50 saw, XXL lingerie or remedial reading classes. That doesn't change the fact that more people don't have 028s ported because it doesn't make fiscal sense for them.

It's no different than someone saying "A guy gave me a Ferrari and I think it's really neat, I wonder why everybody doesn't have a Ferrari?"

You seem really well thought out, though, so that should be easy for you understand. ;)

028's In this part of the world are probably one of stihls best sellers. Tried and true for the average wood cutter or farmer. However, in recent years, some of the parts are not available or the cost of repairs exceed the cost of the saw. This excludes any modifications for us enthusiasts. Were they great saws of the time? No doubt. Has there been other models to exceed them, yes! If you score the piston and cylinder, are you willing to pay a dealership for repairs? That is up to you. Personally, l'm done with them as I have used or sold all the parts I have to make them usable. Great saw, still see a couple a year for normal maintenance but it gets questionable now days does the repair exceed the value of the saw?

This may be my new favorite hashtag.

#SimmerDownBuckshot

LMFAO

I need to learn about this 'hashtag' business. I'm way behind on this stuff. I do know about hashbrowns, but I do prefer home fries. Me thinks a few may be getting to serious here, but I may be missing it.

Me thinks a few may be getting to serious here,

Some people ain't happy unless they are stirring the chit. As long as we have people, chit will be stirred.

The interwebz are a most serious thing you know. So serious chit stirring will be happening until Al Gore dies and the Internet goes into the earth with his corpse.

Seriously.

And stuff.

Speaking of 028’s........
I’m looking for a 028 super cylinder.
The one I have, I don’t think will clean up.

I prolly have a 44mm top end.....
I have a nice looking OEM 42mm top end.
Thing is, I have a brand new Tecomec 46mm pop up piston just needing a jug. Piston looks real nice too.
Maybe I’ll take you up on the 44mm.

I have four units of 028 super, great chainsaw, for me much better than other modern stihl (260) only problem here is to find silencers and carburetor in good condition new is very expensive. Of course for me the 028 super and the 038 magnum are two of the best stihl of all time, similar to 346xp and 372xp, although these are a little closer in time

I have sold more 028`s to homeowners and weekend fire wooders than any other model Stihl chainsaw, they are considered tough as nails and reliable as a hammer. Since we don`t have the E fuel here to worry about even the carbs can set with mix in them for years and the saws will still start and run for the occasional use crowd. These folks only want a saw that will start and cut wood, they don`t care about a few ounces 0f weight or a few seconds slower than a new plastic fantastic.

Pretty heavy for their size. 026 is much lighter, 346, 550, 261 and so on
But, if you compare the 028 to the o29 or the 290, the 028 is better. But, Stihl decided to keep the 290 clam shell and drop the 028. I believe somebody in Germany drank too many beers before that decision was made.

They replaced the 028 with the 026
