Anyone have any experience with Stens piston and cylinder kits? I got one a while back for an 028 44mm. The Stens p/c was 46mm aka (028 Super with pop up piston). I replaced it and the saw never quiet ran right. Slow to accelerate, loss of power in the cut. I thought of the normal symptoms. I replaced fuel filter, fuel line, chkd spring on filter and cleaned carb. No difference. Ordered new Tillotson carb. Very mild change but not a fix by any means. I decided to try another OEM used p/c I had laying around (42mm). The saw runs like its supposed to0. All the power and acceleration.
So could it be the ports are off a little bit in the Stens? Does anyone have a project 028 they want to try it on and see if it was just me or if it reacts the same way on another 028. I don't have another 028 laying around like normal at the moment.

Did you dry fit the piston to the cylinder prior to install?

No. But it has high compression or that of a fresh rebuild. 150ish if I remember correctly. Also put a base gasket under it. Used 42mm has a gasket under it also.

I've installed a quite alot of them.I figure about 30 or so Stens brand. I've always inspected them closely with usual small changes. Like chamfer ports clean up casting and small shape changes. Being honest I do that to almost every jug I lay my hands on. Never had one I thought was a dud for performance of any brand. Now these are average Joe rebuilds that the customer is happy as a clam just seeing it run again and I am satisfied with its performance enough to say they perform normal. But have had many of all different brands be rejected by me from unrepairable issues. Like lack of plating hikes in transfers, improper bore, and free port issues. Either way always go over any aftermarket part closely.

Trying one for a 346 on a 350. Find out in a week or so if it lasts the initial break in

I'm beginning to think they all share molds back and forth. I've seen some jugs have the same markings from different brands/suppliers. I know they all will eventually have issues. You can't make that many and not have something go wrong. Hell they making them with antiquated equipment and little qc.

The look and feel (weight) made me think of Tecomec more than Hyway. It does have some markings on it but Im not sure what they are exactly. I will look this eve. Ill try and get some pics and see if anything jumps out at anyone.

Tecomec had quit making the AM parts. They may have bought some but when they're gone, they're gone.

Only thing that I noticed was at the top of the cylinder wall there was a bit of irregular plating. You can actually feel it with your finger. Just slightly.
