Nice tree and nice simple setup Steve!

What year is that train set, did you buy it new? Was it passed down through your family.

The S2 is post war lionel. They were produced between 1945 and 1949. Most likely mine is a 48 or 49. It has the 6200 decal on the smokebox door as opposed to it being hot stamped on like the early production. Also the cab is numbered 2020. Early models were 600 series on the cab.

The log cars are current production.

Here is my favorite diesel. C&O NW2 switcher. These where made between 1952 and 1954. Mine is a 1952 model without a doubt. The hand rail has 10 sanctions on it. 53 and 54 models have only 3 to lower production cost.

This is like the one my dad had as a kid. My uncle still has the actual one from his childhood.

My wife and i really like a traditional Christmas tree. The tree only sports german hand blown glass or homemade ortiments. No walmart or decor store meaningless crap on there!

When we were up your way we stoped by the Christmas Haus just north of Hanover off 30. We spent too much money there!

That's pretty cool!

I have one old Lionel steam train set. I think it's from about 1927 maybe? My grandfather gave it to me when I was a kid. He told me that his dad bought it for him when he was born (1927). So that's why I assume that is the year that it was from.

That's great! Nothing like keeping it simple and traditional!

I'll have to see if I can dig it out. My attic is a wreck, I know it buried in there some where.

No promises on finding time to dig it out but I'll try. There's nothing special about it it says Lionel Lines on everything. It special to me because it was my grandfather's.

If I do dig it out I won't be able to show it set up because I don't have the room. So it would just be pictures of the equipment. I also have a diesel passenger set that my uncle gave me, not sure how old that is.

Huh. I could've sworn that my grandfather told me that his dad bought this set for him when he was a kid. I guess being a kid I probably heard him wrong. Maybe he did but it didn't make it and this was a replacement that my grandfather bought for himself?

Thanks for the clarification Steve! I honestly thought that it was older than 1958!

2355? That one is earlier than the 248 but still postwar. 1952-53 i think. I like those F units. Always wanted one in the C&O paint. But so does everybody else!

The picture of this number is off of the wrong locomotive. It is actually a picture of the dummy unit. There was two in the set. A motored one and a dummy one.

Here's a couple of pictures of some of the cars.

Here are the prewar stuff i have to show the difference. This 259E is from 1932. Alot of prewar lionel was tinplate as die casting was still pretty expensive. Notice even the wheels are stamped steel. You can also notice the toy like latch couplers. That was the major breakthrough in postwar lionel was the realisim of die casting and the scale knuckle coupler.

This is my restomod 1688E. My uncle repainted this for me back in 1991. He painted it blue as it is my favorite color. Originally it would be a low metallic gunmetal grey. I actually put a motor from a 248 in it because they run alot smoother than the original.

This was one of Lionel s first die cast locomotives. About 1935ish.

Lionel also lithographed the lower end cars like these. You notice the cars for my 259E above the seperate parts are all enameled seperatly and then assembled.
