I’m told this stuff is NLA. I was able to score 25’ of it.
It’s just what I need with several old saws I have and run. I never noticed the safety hump till you mentioned it. I thought it was .050 gage that made it different.
I don't know anything about it personally never used .050 in .404 does it have normal size .404 cutters?
I'd imagine it could snap easy .050 gage is a thin driver for cutting hardwood with a big cc saw I've only ever used .063 .404 chain for that.
Although the race guys here seem to run baby chain and 10pins so anything is possible.
They are full size chisel. I thought the same as you as far as strength is concerned. But the drivers (and the cutters ) are machined the same way .050 is made today. They take and grind the lower half off the links from .063 to the .050. The part of the links and drivers that’s used to put the rivets thru are .063 still. So it’s really as strong as a .063 gage chain.
