I've got this South Bend lathe sitting in my shop, but I don't know how to run a lathe, nor do I have time to learn, so it's up for grabs.
It runs and seems to work fine.

Comes with the 5" 3-jaw south bend chuck, but no other tooling other than the tool holder that's on it, also it does not have the belt cover anymore.
It's wired for 115v single phase.

$750 obo

I'm located in southern Missouri, zip code 65761, and I'm not excited about the idea of shipping something this heavy and awkward.

If it doesn't sell, I'd be happy to part it out and ship the parts if anybody is interested.

I to, wish you were closer. I have been looking for a smaller lathe. Do you have the model of the lathe?

Either way, here's a bump for you

I don't know what model it is, I think maybe it's a model 9.
But, I'm not very South Bend smart, so.....

I think if you go to "lathes UK " you can down load the manuals . I have some place an original manual for either a 9" or 10" although I don't own one myself .One thing about SB they made a zillion of them so parts should be plentifull .That machine looks like it's old enough it may have been a line shaft machine adapted to a simple drive motor .I also think it's a change gear machine not a quick change .At any rate you can find the change gears, screw on chucks etc on flea bay .
That one is almost like the lathe I first learned on when I was a teenager. As a rule they aren't watchmaker accurate but for most people are close enough .If the head stock gets loose goosey it should have tapered bushings which can be tightened up .

This screw on chuck business you can get real creative and adapt them .Many Southbends like most 9" take 1.5" by 8 thread .The larger heavy 10" I think are 2.25" by 8 .I have a heavy 10" face plate I adapted to use on my Monarch 10" EE .Rather that make a D1-3 adaptor which takes a month of Sundays I just turned a screw on stub from the end of an automotive crank shaft and chuck it up in a 3 jaw on the lathe .Just like a chainsaw .there's more than one way to skin the same cat . I seldom use a face plate or a 4 jaw but I have them just in case .

The belt arrangement is the way the model 9 came from South Bend, you can find replacement flat belts on Ebay for it.
