Its mounted in place of the metering side cover. This is on a Sears trimmer (MTD). I haven't quite wrapped my head around it yet. Seemed to be wired to the kill switch.

This pic has a one way valve but there wouldn't be any fuel on this side of the diaphragm. So does it have to do with letting air pressure to the dry side? Shut off the air hole, starve the engine of fuel, right?

Sure looks like that is what it is for. The metering diaphragm won't be able to drawn down and thus the metering valve won't open.

You said it was wired to the kill switch, is there another wire to ground the coil or is this solenoid the only 'kill' to the engine?

Where is the power source for this solenoid?

Never saw that on a trimmer, but ran into a similar thing on a Kohler engine on a Husqvarna riding mower the other day.

When you see these on riders, the plunger plugs the emulsion tube, killing fuel supply.
It looks like the normal kill wires go to the mag. Beyond that, this is a customer's equipment, so I'm not going disect this one.
