I bought a bunch of old sandvick Windsor chain a while back and it's very good, I usually run carlton, 84dl of it is 14.99 here and 84dl of stihl is 26 bucks. I also don't give 14$ for stihl bar oil either, the 5.99 stuff works just fine.

So... What chain should be avoided? What have you ran into that is total garbage? I have used Oregon, Stihl, and Husqvarna chains with little issue with any of them. Honestly, most of my chains are what was on it when I got it. I just keep them as sharp as my abilities allow and run 'em until I find a nail or a railroad spike someone jammed in the tree...

IMO any chain will perform badly if its not filed/ground right no matter how much chrome its made of. Some of the best performing lo pro I have run is from China. You can get it really sharp due to the softer poorer grade metals but it won't hold an edge as long as quality chain like swiss stihl chain. My problem with the soft cheap chain is how much it stretches in our hard wood with high power saws, butbI find it works well in lowpro in clean grean wood on low cc saws. I got a roll of GB evoII in .404 semi chisel (copy of carlton) and really like that chain too for the price I paid for it.

Silver Streak was the Company name of the aftermarket brand before Oregon bought it. Somehow Stens acquired it. I was told that Oregon let the copyright expire, but that always sounded "fishy"....
