Honest question, where do yall think I messed up? I waited 8 months with no resolution. No communication, and when there was it was lies and excuses. I’ve learned thru this thread and the other that admins and mods aren’t the same role. (Didn’t know that) I’m not on forums enough as a participant to know the ends and outs/ structure of the forum. I involved Randy bc he’s the builder and had known since Feb that a saw was inbound- once I found out it was disassembled/ tampered with. I would have thought the simplest move would be to ban the person so it didn’t happen to someone else. Some of us, loosing money or a saw is gonna piss us off, others it’s going to affect more severely financially. I simply wanted what I paid for so I could get the damn thing ported. I’ve waded thru the comments and I think some people are also upset about the price I put on the 2152. I priced it according to what a 346xp or Jonsered equivalent go for in that condition. Thats my right as the owner. Doesn’t make sense to demand someone sell something below market value or break even just bc. By that logic, when I sold my house last year that I had owned 25 years- I would have sold it for what I paid for it… instead of current market value. That doesn’t make sense. I’ve bought and sold a ton of saws, far more than most and this is the only time I’ve been burned on a deal…. Which honestly was a surprise bc I had many successful deals with the same person going back many years.
Come on man… Go back and reread this thread. If you can’t figure out where things went south pm the mods to help you figure it out. This isn’t the place for this.

Yep, it’s there…not many seem to use it.
It doesn’t matter if it’s used or not. People change and things happen. People need to use protection when buying and paying for items. It’s still going to be an issue but it will keep the fights out of the forum. If you pay using goods and services your fight with pay pal not ope.

in my opinion when someone doesnt want to say names it really muddies up the waters, its like they dont want to get it resolved and move on, they wanna cry and whine.

I have no dog in anything, and thats just been my observation from hearing others drama throughout my life.

one thing that troubles me more and more these days is seeing close friends disagree on something and not be able to get past it, it sucks when disagrements get to the point of no return, and unfortunatley our country is only getting worse in that aspect, I hope the parties involved can patch things up and move along.

for the most part I feel the mods do a great job weeding out the BS and being very consistant with rules.

I do wish dallas was still around though, although I have never spoken a word to him, that guy consistantly won the internet in my opinion with the off wall crap he came up with.

@bryanr2 I'm not here to judge you or your actions. None of us should be. What I would of done was call out Dan directly and with no response then make aware for all future transactions. Dan is a friend of mine and to be honest I still can't believe something like this could of transpired. But you have stated the facts and unfortunately @PA Dan has not responded which I still can't wrap my head around. He has liked several posts as recent as today but those are not being shown for some reason.

Unfortunately in this case a mod crossed a line. Then went all sorts of crazy outside the forum and screen shots of the tantrum were posted on ope. What does that say about someone who was supposed to be a leader here

I find it funny that one of the stickied threads in the for sale section says to avoid doing that, yet most sale items are listing the friends and family as the prefered payment method.

Well, there is, but its not used much.

I'd like to see everybody leave feedback after a transaction, good or bad. Myself, I like to also leave a comment in the original for sale thread, to help everybody see what its like dealing with the seller.
Unfortunately 3 or 4 years ago when @gentlemen revised the site all the feedback in history was lost. So keep that in mind fellas when looking at buyers or sellers.

thats not good, people need to remember to leave the emotions at the door and keep it professional. what happened doesnt change my mind about the mods and admin, i still think they're good people. and people do including me act stupid at times.

Click on your name or any name and you will see what’s called trader history. What more do you need?
Thanks for the information. Nothing on my trader history? I have done multiple deals? So I would say that's not %100.

I’ve been having a good time here. If this thing gets blown apart and recreated the same issues will resurface sooner than later. The issues are not forum/software issues but human issues. People need to be able to control themselves and not over react so quickly.

That being said. Why is anyone other than the buyer and seller getting involved in a sale ? If you choose to do anything other than show up with cash in hand and physically exchange cash and item OR pay with a method like PayPal NON friends and family you run the risk of getting burnt. No more needs to be said. You’re taking risk buying from someone you have only known online.

I’ve purchased a few things off OPE and AS and other forums and ALWAYS use the NON friends and family method of payment. I’ve had to get my money back twice in 15+yrs and it was very simple.

As far as moderation goes, I’ve played the role of moderator as well as admin on a few forums over the years and you couldn’t pay me enough to do it again. Either role. Doesn’t matter how you look at it you’re a babysitter over a bunch of keyboard thumpers.

Everyone needs to give the staff some slack and realize they’re all here for free like the rest of us. Heck, some of us even pay to be here lol.

Something I always struggled with was conveying that NOTHING online is worth losing an actual personal relationship over. Nothing. People act/react SO much differently online than they do in person. People tend to fly off the handle so much quicker online than they do in person. Everyone chill and start posting more pictures of properly ground chains and neatly stacked wood piles.

Maybe get rid of the for sale section …… take the butt hurt financial potential out of the mix. Or make it open to paid members only.

Or use the feedback features and buy with caution like you’re supposed to already 🤷‍♂️

Spot on.
Ah woodpiles and sharp chains.... those sound good after the last couple of days.

Good advice.
I try not to judge people for what they do wrong... I judge them based on how they recover, or don't.

Your right but it’s not the chainsaw or the parts it’s your hard earned money that you lost.
Yes but is it worth risking a blow-up like the one that just happened over a saw?
And yes I work as hard as anybody for my money, I'd hate to lose that much but life happens, sometimes you have to move on.

Absolutely no clue what's been going on.... but, I'd sure hate to see ope die out.

All I have to say is people are sometimes poopheads, and they should quit being poopheads, and we all need to be patient with poopheadedness because it happens.....

I've bought and sold probably around 20 saws over the last few years with very few issues, and to my knowledge none were unresolved.
It's all about being honest, humble, reasonable, and trying to see any problems from the other guy's prospective as well as our own.
Most members here are fine upstanding guys...... but crooks, thieves, and plain o'l poopheads are out there....buyer beware.

One of the most useful/ constructive things for helping sales go smoothly is when folks who have done business with the seller chime in on the for sale thread, with a nod of confidence.
Several of the people in this discussion do that on a regular basis and I really appreciate it, whether I'm the seller or a prospective buyer.
(Woodpecker and the sausage man are both very good about this)

I'd sure hate to see selling on ope become so legalistic & regulated that we might as well sell on ebay.....however it wouldn't hurt us to do a lot better about leaving trader reviews (or whatever it's called.

On another topic mentioned earlier.....for what (if anything) it's worth here....... I have no use for some of what passes for humor on ope.
The pervert joking may be funny some, but to others it's not amusing in the least.
I don't expect anyone to reform, but I figure if it's okay to joke about such things then it's okay for others to voice our opinion on the topic.

Keep sicko joking off the constructive/ technical threads on ope.

Definitely keep it off the for sale threads of other members....it's just plain inconsiderate to clog up someone else's sale thread with off-color nonsense.

At the end of the day, I just ignore the trash and steer clear of some the social threads.

Good night fellas.
