I lost a st croix avid in the river yesterday with a shimano vanford reel on it, I was so pissed my head almost blew off.

Slow day on keepers but still was nice to get out. Transition time from cruising open water to brush. Got dad and old family friend to go along and cleaned and gave fish to him. Calvin is 86 now I believe if I remember correctly and dad is 78.

I almost broke my other rod over my knee when I realized it was gone I was that pissed, I was wading through the river and took 2 rods like I always do. I had one in my hand and one tucked in on the side of my waders..water was pretty swift, when I realized it fell out there was no chance finding it, someone really had a lucky day or it's gonna rest on the bottom like the titanic.

I join all the little clubs within a 20-25 mile radius of where I live, even if I don't get to fish the water they need all the money they can get to stay alive, I've been a member of west newton for 27 years now and this year when I stopped in to join the dude working told me they had only 79 people join this year, for perspective in 2015 they had 427 people join...they Tag fish and prizes ranged from cases of free beer to gift cards for gander mountain/dicks and even the 100 dollar cash tag (I actually caught one in 2013) and there were only three in the river. This year that prize list is on life support because no one gets involved anymore, they'd rather stay home and be a homo and look at social media. The guys that have been a part of it for over 50 years are dying off or getting too old, it's sad that my stocking partner on the boat was 88 years old and his grandson is nowhere to be found...

Small grub and paddletail bodies with an 1/8oz jig head. Usually 2 or 3 inch bodies. I was using a light action rod with 6lb test.

I am a snob and fish in the ocean for the most part, I will eat some trout from our streams/rivers but much prefer the ocean fish.
