I go for the ones that fight the best
Looks like all smallies? Some nice footballs there!
We used to hit the Susquehanna in Duncannon PA in canoes in the fall for the big smallmouth there, looked a lot like your catch! Been prob 10-12 years, I heard the fishery isn't what it used to be though. Mostly fish the James and Craig Creek here now, and there are some nice smallmouth pockets if you get on the water before the pleasure kayakers.

I know we have a bunch of fishermen on here, but does anyone else build rods?? I've been building on and off for over 40 years now. I ordered a couple "ice rod blanks" awhile back which got lost in the mail, and it got me to wondering if any of you tinkered around with them.

Nice! Do you have a any pictures of rods you have built?

Years ago I looked into building my own rods. Never took the leap though.

How difficult is it?

We've been without internet access for a week. When I can use the desktop again I'll going out some pics.

Difficulty Depends on the individual and how far you want to go honestly. There is a small initial investment in components and materials, but most of the fancy equipment you see on websites are unnecessary if you're resourceful and creative. I've built some very high quality stuff using a drill motor for a lathe, a cardboard box for a wrapping jig and a six pack of beer to pass the time while drying thread finished by hand.

For you guys not liking the "oily" fish, rake the gills and bleed them out, and get them on ice as soon as caught.

Was taught this a charter Captain when were catching bluefish. We also filleted them ASAP and soaked the fillets in iced down salt water.

Bluefish are tasty if you do that. Grilled them skin side down, with Italian dressing on top, or fresh pesto made without the cheese

When you get them time and the internet back, I'd love to see some pictures.
