What on prehistoric earth are those things mate?

Actually prehistoric is a good word for them. American paddlefish, AKA spoonbill. There were only two species of paddlefish in the world until the construction of the Three Rivers Gorge dam in china caused the Chinese paddlefish to become extinct in the last decade. Filter feeders that are caught by snagging with a bare hook. Bit stronger tasting and oilier meat that smokes quite well.

So you cast and retrieve a treble into the general area and hope for a snag hook-up?

Yep. Usually in the spring when they are making a spawning run. They tend to gather in rivers and you have a better chance of hooking up. In the fall they will start schooling in deeper areas of the lakes and depending on regulations of the state you are fishing, you can also find an catch them at that time as well.

Ever get tired of cleaning fish after a while? Took dad and boy on thursday on boy's last day of school. Rainy but the boat has a top so no big deal to be out. Yesterday took neighbor and one of his boys. Spent the morning on the water and stayed until 3:30 until the weekend players got too bad. He is a mechanic at Camp Swampy and it did him so much good just to take a day away. Shot him a text on thursday night since I knew he had friday off and he said his wife told him straight off that he was going to go.

Only thinking of fishing lately. It’s too hot at the moment to go here in Missouri for me!
