I've been running the Carlton lo profile. N1, I think it's called. Semi chisel. So far it's been great. Quite an improvement over the reduced kickback chain that came on the 421.

My Dolmar dealer sold me 3 loops for $30. I recently picked up a loop of RS for $18.99. Only an hour or so on it doing some thinning. It's nice chain, that's for sure, but I don't know about paying almost twice the price for it.

Does Carlton make a full chisel lo profile?

Iv been running Oregon .325 LPX 20 full chisel on my ps 420 after starting off with the Dolmar semi chisel . A little more bite than the semi as long as it sharp but ether chain the saw is fine on IMO.

I have thought about switching to .325, but I'm kinda looking the lo pro. It is a bit of a drag having 3 different file sizes, though...

Its for the same reasons i keep to 1.5mm .325 and narrow kerf 1.3mm .325 ...most of my saws are on .325 of some form. Dolmar and Husqvarna small mounts interchange ...42, 346, 357 262 bars will go on the 5105 and 6100 without altering.

I like 3/8 low pro; .325 NK; 3/8 low pro / NK; .325; as long as it is sharp and matched to the powerhead. I admit it; i am a chain floozy!

Long video - what's your opinion of the differences between the bars and chains?

Thanks.

Philbert
I really like the new Oregon speedcut bar.
I think the stihl ps chain is stihl king. Lol see what I did there.
The new txl chain was very smooth and felt good but was also the slowest. I am not sure where Oregon got their numbers but the vpx it is replacing was faster but chattered more and grabbed more.

I informally compared Oregon TXL, 95VP, and Carlton NK chain a few months back on the same Husqvarna bar. They cut fairly similar, IMHO, with the once-sharpened Carlton slightly faster.

carlton and stihl for me. oregon needs to get it's head out of their ass and quit making oregon so soft.
20lpx and 20bpx especially.

I couldn't agree more they keep on stretching and that is hard on a clutch and nose sprocket

I haven't really noticed anything bad with Oregon chain. If they cut wood then they are a good chain.

Finally got a 20" SpeedCut bar for my Husqvarna 353
IMG_5929.jpg

Compared the weight with the OEM bar: saves 5 ounces, which is about 18%:
IMG_5930.jpg IMG_5931.jpg

Bar groove is slightly longer, and has angled oil holes, vs the slightly larger diameter, conventional holes on the Husky bar.

The bar has an unusual, dull, almost rough finish. Have to mount it on the saw and see how it affects the overall balance and compare flexibility - my only real concern with narrow kerf bars.

How does the weight compare to a LW Tsumura bar?

Most guys probably consider a 'reduced weight' bar that is less than 28" an unnecessary indulgence. I am mostly interested to see if this 'bonded' SpeedCut bar is stiffer than the spot welded OEM bar. Flexibility is my only real concern with narrow kerf bars.
