Similar axe heads, one already hung, House Handle octagonal. Second is a Hoffman new "mis-stamped" but still looking good. Little use but already a favorite. We are going to swing it. Nice new addition. Early "True Temper Kelly Perfect" Jersey style with a "3" marked on the poll. I hung it on a HOUSE HANDLE 32" octagonal curved handle Nice addition, no more work to the head. I like the "3" present on the poll.

Both at 32" total length. Hoffman at 4lbs 1oz and Kelly at 4lbs 6oz. Hoffman with a 20* degree blade angle, Kelly at 22.5* degrees edge finished. Hope to get a little time to swing them both this weekend. Maybe??? Regardless nice additions to me for this habit. I have a small "BlackJack"(read LiveOak) to fell soon. Will try axe's to do the work. Maybe1000000433.jpg

Those are some pretty small poles to be smacking against on those older ones

Axes are a hobby of mine. Let's see what ya got.
Dear bryan2 , it's an addiction, do you have any Sagers, norland, there are more. Some people have collected, stamps, coins, paper money, guns, chainsaws, oil cans, cars, vintage ammunition , vintage medicine bottles, oh yea vintage colognes, and perfume. There is more, go to antiques show. Baby chairs, baby beds , old scales, old coke boxes, oh another coke bottles. Would buy a little 6.1/2 oz. coke and see name of the city furthest away or closest to you , on the name on the bottom of the little coke bottle, that's history trying to find those , much less your city, when your growing up in 50 ,60 ,70,.
I got one another run.
Thanks Buck, in this tarheel town.

Not an axe but still related. Spent the last two evenings trying to make an axe rack. This is the result. 48" tall and 48" wide. Tried to keep it simple. Used three 2x6" and two 2x4" all pieces are 8' to keep it simple and easy. About to put some BLO, stain or what ever I have on the shelf to the wood.

Thinking maybe 18 or 20 hanging head-up and handle down will fit on the top two 2x6" boards. Also want to use 1/2" or 5/8" wooden dowels(side in) on the two uppermost 2x6" (each side) to hang more axes handles, handle up w/ head down using para-cord to the handle heel, butt or bulb. 8 - 10 heads per upper-side of two upper most 2x6". ? Zig-Zag pattern for the dowels. Maybe? IDK? Suggestions or advise welcome.

There is a yard stick in each pic if you zoom in. 1000000492.jpg1000000491.jpg

BLO is the final wood finish. Decided and applied. Waiting to dry

Curious how good the bolt worked out for the ax edge. Is the steel too soft or too hard or too brittle?
It has been almost 3 months, "normal" use in the woodshed, beech, oak, turkey oak.
Though there is evidence of improper usage in form of dried dirt on the hatchet, so I guess my mom as usual chopped stakes on the ground or hacked away at some roots.

Not too bad for 12.9 grade bolt alloyed steel.

Took a racker flat file to it and after a couple minutes got most of the dull blade section sharp again.

I am satisfied with the result and may do this to other hatchets and axes that are worn or just too soft.
