I think the most miserable wood I’ve ever split was standing dead, wind twisted Elm. Next in line is old growth sugar maple...it is concrete.
I did an American Elm a few months ago. One of the hardest wood I have cut to date. I think even harder than post oak. Saws had to work hard. Very dense wood.
Yes, fibrous and very stringy. You actually end up pulling pieces apart when splitting. Kinetic splitters will actually just cut through chunks because it won't split like many other species. It burns well, though!yes it is dense our elm is quite fibrous is your elm the same

Yes. It doesn't split very well. Not like oak. Fibers are like steel.yes it is dense our elm is quite fibrous is your elm the same
