The old man late 70s or in his 80s knew me from somewhere.
i didn't catch his name there was several shoppers.
I don't remember him but he wants me to stop by and go through his many homelites and see if i want any.
It was too hot and i told him not to worry about it today.
He says they are big timber saw's
Which usually means xl 12s and super xls.
He probably used super 2s as his firewood saw.
I hope there is some big homelites.
I will look for axe heads too.

My 75-year-old friend Charles wants these rehandled.
They were his late fathers i only recognize the Kelly's cruiser the other three are very old.
The cruiser and hatchets are in great condition.
His father used the hatchets for wood stove and fireplace kindling for decades.20170710_161118.jpg 20170710_161143.jpg

Picked up this Plumb at a yard sale today. Any insight on age? I know very little about axes except that I know Plumbs are high quality that I usually cannot afford...lol! I happily gave $20 for this one. Any best practices for removing the rust scale? It's not pitted too bad, the previous owner used a wire wheel on a grinder by the look of it. I'm thinking a couple day soak in penetrating oil with loosen what wants to come off. Thanks.

Nice one If you want it to bare metal soak it in white vinegar.
Or too keep the patina wire brush and oil it that's what i normally do i like the vintage look.
I put a little watco on a few axe heads and it keeps them from rusting while being stored.
And seems pretty durable just the cutting edge rubs the watco off.

Looks great do you need to rehandle it.
Thanks. I'm going to refinish the handle that's on it. It's not cracking and seams solid. Figure I'll give it a good sanding, then hit it up with some dark cherry stain and then seal it. I like dark handles, might even burn it a little before staining.

Head is sharpened and done. Got a good enough edge to easily slice paper on the entire width of both bits. On too the handle. Hope you guys don't mind me posting this stuff in here. If I'm hijacking at all please let me know.
