Classic Croatian maul vs. my Dragon Slayer ax.
Old folk swears on never sharpening a mauls blade, sounds counterproductive to me.

I gave the maul a couple swings, it does its thing through brute weight, no splitting sophistication whatsoever.

Not sure if it's a Michigan or Dayton pattern?
Michigan patterns do really well in my neck of the woods (1 mile from 1.2M acres of hardwood National Forest).
I dont particularly like the looks of them, but they seem to perform better here than any other pattern I've tried.
The Legitimus is pretty convex so I'm confident it will serve well here.

My 18yo daughter had some fun using these 2 yesterday. She’s definitely going to be grabbing the 8 pounder when she splits, she started with the 6 pound splitter, but when she got to the 8 pound splitter she was smiling, said it just works !!!!

We were splitting white oak and hickory

They worked great in fresh hickory and fresh white oak. To me, their profile is perfect, my 18yo daughter got them both stuck a few times,IMG_1050.pngIMG_1051.pngIMG_1052.pngIMG_1055.png

but I didn’t have that problem. They just blew apart most everything they were aimed at, not a single split was within 6 feet of the stump, and most of those close ones were big enough to split again

So I had a little hatchet envy and found this I overpaid it was 50 bucks but bought it and cleaned it up to give to my mom for Christmas. Had to sharpen it as the edge was kinda beat up.

Sweet!
They are getting pretty scarce.
No worries about $50.
They wont ever go down in value.
