A friend gave me this Hudson Bay ax yesterday. No markings on it other than “Made in W. Germany”, which I think is kinda cool. The steel has a nice ring to it, guessing it weighs a little over 2 pounds. Working on a 20” Gransfors Bruk style handle for it, should make for a nice camp ax.

I think paint would protect your handle much like watco would. Once the paint is on there I bet your handle would last a good long time.Fellas, i really wanna paint my axes handles blue so they show up in the woods better.
Any paint suggestions?
Will I also be able to use some Watco on it after the paint?
Before?
I’ve also been using a Hults Bruk Torneo and she’s gonna need a new handle. Thing is too light and I was swinging too hard. Overstruck.
Any good places to source a handle for her?
I appreciate the advise.
5lbThat’s a nice stout axe what weight is it
That’s what I was thinking Jeff. Even if it’s not valuable I kinda feel like it’s a piece of history and I like it. They’re hard to date in the research I’ve done but I know it’s from 1989 or older...lol.Awesome ax Josh. Nice clear stamping too.
Could be a collector, seeing that the wall came down a while ago and they are unified.
I have a hatchet that was my grandfathers that has the same stamp and blue paint. I would love to know some historyA friend gave me this Hudson Bay ax yesterday. Be nice if the axes could talk wouldn’t it? I’ve been searching around for history on them but so far all I’ve found is old forum threads, who knows if the info is accurate.I have a hatchet that was my grandfathers that has the same stamp and blue paint. I would love to know some history

What does the handle look like on your Hults Bruk? Can you post a pic?
Dibz on the ARVIKA lol. Thanks for all the input sir..
Whadda you think ?
If it’s not loose I wouldn’t worry about it. It appears it was tight against the shoulder without much taper holding the head in place. I would sand it down a little to make it look a little better and seal it up.Thanks for all the input sir..

Very cool to have something from your grampa, you can tell he used it a lot too. Can’t tell you anything about it based on the marking, even branded axes like Collins, Kelly and Plumb are tough to date unless they have very specific markings such as the Plumb Victory ax.Ok this came from my grandad no name on it just an h is all
Can you tell me anything about it besides it' oldView attachment 126637 View attachment 126637 View attachment 126638 View attachment 126638
