I didn't see anything wrong with that filter or it's ability to keep fines out. The round hole is what matters, not the area around it that was dirty. The two little bits of debris you pointed at appeared to have fallen in when removing the filter.

Now one question I have...
Did billow take a soldering gun to the top cover to carve in his shop sig?
I have a 661 here and I can assure you they do leak some fines past the filter without grease. The old 660 setup was better because the seal was tightened to the base firmly. Maxflo is the first thing they need along with the oiler pin pushed in. Good to go after that.

creates tighter seal if your using the HD2 filter. (presses the filter tighter up against the manifold)

a double layer of duct tape does the trick. But start with single layer and see how you like that. Doesn't take much.

Brand new saw... and you have to fix it with duct tape. SMH!
