I have the opportunity to buy a complete but in pieces 041, it is scored other than that looks to be all there. My question is, is this saw worth messing with? I know I've heard of them but never been around one before, I know it's ancient and I've never messed with one this old before. Would I be better off leaving it where it lay?

They are a decent saw. They are very common though. If it was a super or a g. Then In my opinion it would be worth picking up. Since it isn't, I personally wouldn't pick it up.

I would not lay out a lot of cash for that saw by the condition you describe. Closer to zero the better. They are fun to play with though, I have a friend of mines Farm Boss on the bench right now, he loves that old thing. So I keep resuscitating it back to life.

I like bringing things back to life, but I know it will just go in the pile with the rest of the relics once I got it running. I guess I will let it lay.

I may get it and just put it back together as a decorative piece.

They have an over inflated reputation with the locals around my area. They routinely ask 200-250 on C'list here.

No doubt they have heated many houses, barns and shops over the years.

Many, many newer saws out there that will do as good or much better.

I like them. The are reliable, simple and have torque. They aound good too. With that being said they are a relic and we never use ours. It's just for nostalgia. My dad used it for everything (firewood for heating two home and farm duty) from 1977 to around 2000 when it fell off the tractor and got ran over. I restored it for Christmas a few years ago.

Well they do have NO av lol. I replaced all the hardware with Allenhead and that made a big difference over the slotted screws.

I actually own one that is on permanent loan to someone else. One of my clients gave it to me and my nephew got it running and his BIL loves it and uses it as his primary (only) saw, and he heats with wood.

I've run it, and find it annoyingly slow, but with good torque. However, two others I know that had them and used them extensively rave about them. I guess it was a very good saw for it's day, and very reliable.

The one I had did have AV.
