I'm working on the 50s Craftsman mower, it had no spark. I thought it may have points which it does. I filed&set them. Then I had super weak (tingle[emoji16]) spark. I removed coil and it measured open. Then I pulled on plug wire, saw up in coil looks like a sharp nail spike (1st pix). Then I measured 4800 (4.8K) ohms that spike to ground lead. From ground lead to points wire 1 ohm. I have no idea if this is correct but seems ok?
The condenser checks 0.22ufd which also seems ok?
Any ideas thanks in advance.
I got lucky...dummy me turning motor over with impact finally wrung bolt off. I hacksawed a slot in tiny bit left, unscrewed with screwdriver (with blade held).20200503_184601.jpg20200503_182151.jpg20200503_182132.jpg20200503_182121.jpg20200503_181330.jpg

Your resistance measurement for the secondary(high voltage) winding of your coil is in the ballpark,as well as your capacitance reading on your condenser. The quality of your connections will make all the difference on your readings.Make sure everything is clean, shiny and tight and you should have good spark.Tecumseh says you should never file the points, but pretty much everyone does.Make sure they are completely residue free. Some guys drag a dollar bill through the points to make sure there's no oil on them at all.

Can we see a pic of the whole thing?-I like old lawnmowers.

Unless you know how to set the timing on a tecumseh engine with points you should not take the coil assembly off. The timing between the flywheel magnets and the points opening is critical.

True-you should make witness marks so you can put everything back exactly where it was.

I forgot to post final results. It runs like new![emoji3]
From what I was able to look up they were made 1950-1956. I believe this is an easily version since no engine shroud.
I re-cleaned carb and tank and will just keep it as a memento of my Dad (rip).20200707_112841.jpg20200707_112725.jpg20200707_112706.jpg

Wow-that is a nice old mower.I would love to find something like that.In my neck of the woods, you never see rotary mowers any older than the 1970's.Gas-powered reel mowers show up fairly frequently, but I'm not crazy about those.

That's quite a gem-thanks for the photos.
