Currently working on a Husqvarna 240 and it's giving me fits. When I received the saw it would start but not idle or run for more than a couple of seconds. I tore the carb apart and ultrasonic cleaned it then rebuilt it using a carb kit. Now the saw runs and revs as it should as long as it's not in any wood. I can rev the saw all the way up and then put it in the wood and it falls on its face and any pressure applied in a downward fashion the revs drop and the chain stops. Trying to troubleshoot it I removed the muffler and the piston looks great. I put my compression tester on it and the little bastard reads 200 psi. I am at a loss as to what else to check. Please offer me some guidance before I throw this thing in the river.

did you check the impulse line?

The 240 uses a solid intake block, like all the other Huskies of that era and the intake blocks will crack from heat and pressure, which can cause the symptoms described above. It happens a lot on the 394 and it's maddening to diagnose.

i'll keep that in mind on my 394...

put together a 394 once with the intake block upside down. I actually got it to run. as soon as I touched wood it died.

credit to JMSSAWS for the heads up on that one

Ditto on the intake block. Check for cracks and orientation. Have checked for an air leak? It's definitely sounds like a fuel mixture issue.
