obviously the bar mount is no problem, but the quick locking swivel cast iron base and the indexed head does take a bit of doing do make...

interesting.... i can't imagine trying to get a piece like that manufactured today... best of luck

they won't be cast, but will function the same. I can have the castings made, but the cost to do so is up there. I think I paid $350.oo for this one 15-20 years ago.
I assumed that the cast pcs. could and should due to cost/manufacturing issues,be converted to mild steel, with the only issue then being acquisition of specific hardware . Very interested in your approach and fabrication process.

I have one just like it bought mine off Ebay around $5o.00 IIRC NIB 8-9 years ago. Also have another bigger and heavier made by different company. Thought I paid too much @$75.00 it was NOS on Ebay. Don't see them too often.

I've seen plans for a ball vise made from a trailer ball. I'll post a link if I can locate it.

looked them all up but could not locate the Philbert vise ! lol
×2 extensive search per Philbert's"guidance" left me with the conclusion that OPs vise is pretty cool as originally presumed.
It's that 2nd axis of rotational indexed rotation that makes it the Bomb, technically speaking...
