OK, Now on one of my saws I was doing a inspection of the piston and cylinder. With the muffler removed the piston looked fine. However, as I was peering down the plug hole I notice a small streak on the side of the cylinder. Now if the exhaust port was say 12 and the intake port was 6, the streak was about at the 230 position.I can barely see it. So does anyone here use a "Borescope" on saws? I may be in the market for one if a decent one is within my allotment. Thanks, Ken

Just saying, I don't worry about streaks in cylinders unless they are very obvious looking, then I run a sharp carbide scribe over them to see if they can be felt and how deep they are. Pretty much any new saw with less than 20 tanks of gas will have lots of 2 dimensional streaks from the rings polishing the bore. After 50 or so tanks they tend to vanish, and the cylinder looks new again. One of my saws scored really bad during the first minute of run time after I ported it. I cleaned it out, put in new rings, and they have been seating well into the streaks, and it's been getting better. Compression hardly suffered even right after it scored.

So, I guess I'm saying check it out, but don't be too concerned. Maybe a loose ring pin might be something to worry about.

I wouldn’t bother. Can’t tell you how many saws I’ve seen with wall streaks seen through the plug hole or the ex port that were perfectly fine when the cylinder was removed.

Even brand new saws factory fired can appear that way, even the intake side of the piston and the bottom of both sides of the skirts can look a bit rubbed.

Plus, you can get oil streaks that look like rubs and all sorts of reflective illusions inside a cylinder.

I say if the piston looks good through the ex port, you’re 99% fine.

BTW,This is on my 025. I have been putting some mix through this thing lately.I tell you, there is something about this saw.Why I choose it over my others is a mystery.
