It's pretty rare that I just port a running good condition saw.

I get lots of saws in peices that was gave up on or runs but they never could get right.

I prefer to start from scratch because I know exactly what has been done and how it was done.

I'll keep that in mind.

Um...,
Kind of like tractors, trucks, heavy equipment. A lot of Equipment jockys like to refer to an in frame as "rebuilt". Sorry,if it hasn't seen the machine shop it's not rebuilt.
true dat!
hummm, ... Is there another way? I mean barring a new head, rods and crank. We did liners in house. I mean your not taking out a 6Klb+ block that is the frame in a road grater. A "refresher" or "freshen-up" with jugs/slugs, gasket and seals is no problem in house, anywhere really. Toss in a lap and stem seals for good luck ;-)

oh btw always check those valve springs

I'm rebuilding and porting a fine red light 066. Anybody know what caused this? View attachment 42620
IMHO, assuming it had some hours on it, a worn skirt causing excessive piston slap at the right resonance, piston go boom. I've seen it in dirt bikes before.

As you stated before an 066 of that age and filter abuse will wear an intake thin and then boom....

These saws are tough J but not that tough. They run a long time with ingestion though.

Will be running a K&N on the 064 soon should hopefully cut down on the fines subject lol. If not.... some of those white filters will surely help.

Have a Maxflow cage made from an old HD1 also made for it.
Sent from my non internal combustion device.
