Ok brains trust I was talking to the local dealer the other day and I asked him which way was the correct way to put a rim sprocket on a 260 261 he's answer was option 2.

One of my owners manual clearly stated option 1. I don’t have supporting documentation, but I remember stupid things like that. I run them either way, distributes the wear...

yes that’s what I do, the sprocket floats so the crud would not stay for long . I see it as a swap it around thing while I change the bar etc. That way you get a few more hrs out of the rim.
I know what the manual says..

I have to store my saws without bars on most of the time, So I get to see the rim regularly

I’ve pulled the rim sprocket off every saw I’ve ported. There has never once been any crud on the backside. But I could see the cavities outward having some sort of cooling properties. Minimal at best I’d imagine

Where's julie and his toy gun when you need him to check drum temps from rim orientation ?

Really doesn’t matter, they run either way.

I’ve never seen build up of crud in a sprocket.

I have ran them both ways mostly option 2 simply because on the larger saws there are no holes in a Sprocket unless it's an 8 pin large spline I was just asking him .
