I think the modern 'reduced wieght' bar option has done wonders in balancing saws particularly larger 28"-36" bars to power heads. I still think light weight bars have a lot of room for improvement. The Tsum/Sugi RW's could be a LOT lighter, the Stihl/Oregon designs seems to really remove the weight. Getting a Sugi/Tsum/Cannon and modifying it yourself with an angle grinder & cutoff wheel takes a RW bar to a whole new level.
Im waiting eagerly for the new Cannon LW bars to come out

Yeah it's crazy how light the Stihl bars are. I showed @jmssaws my 36" Stihl light and compared it to a regular ES and he bout chit himself
I know the es light wont last as long as Tsum. Or Sugi but they seem to balance the best of all the LW bars

For limbing I like a tad to the rear like on the 346 with 16" Cannon
it's a great thread you have made Keith.

your 346 NE is spot on with 18" bar, it's the same experience I had with the JRed version 2153, 16" a tad back heavy, and I never liked it with 15".
My JRed 2253WH is 15-18", 15 a tad back heavy, 16 is perfect, and it also balance sweet with 18"

My 241c I had with the 16" Cannon was a nice balance and almost exactly like the 346. A tad of weight to the rear

4 years seems extreme on R&D for a bar.
It's not exactly hard to do. Stihl's design looks like the most complex....but probably the best. Even their laminated 'E light' bars are good. I wanted a small really light setup for limbing up to 10"-14" & decided on a RH ms201 (standard carb) with a 14" E light bar. It's super light & smooth. I got mine before the MT's were out. Its been a good saw.

I like how the oregon 32 lw balances on the 440 ,tried the 28 lightweight this weekend just to clean up some log ends ,power was zippier than the 32 ,but felt too light in the nose to me for what i'm used too .

You must have seen the 461 pic i posted the other day Keith ,Lol

How is the sideways balance ? do they dip any more on your saws ?

7910 a little tip heavy with 24" total light and tough. I doesn't really feel all that tip heavy to me though. The beefy 6421 felling spikes changed the balance some when I put them on. Felt balance was mostly the same though.

6100 pretty good balance with 20" total light and tough

For *s-words and giggles echo 490 good balance with 16" oregon pro lite.

Glad I'm not the only crazy one who strings his saws up to check the balance!
