Thanks very much for your very valid input all.
Since posting we've managed to secure a very capable 3120 from Armbru84.
Huskihl has managed to get his midgy fingers into it, so I feel we're in safe hands.
So now the question remains- dual or single powerhead option....
I have a 394 that could help with the pull?
Hmmm, food for thought.
Definitely wouldn’t mix 2 different saws on the same bar, would be better to throw an 880 on there. The 394 will have a completely different rpm powerband than the 3120 and you don’t want to lug that thing down to the 3120 level or you could burn it up. Milling you’ll find each saw has a sweet spot where it likes to be. Usually with a fresh chain and not much pressure the saw will bite in and lug itself down but cut at a good pace. This is where you should try and keep it. Just like bucking firewood, saws gave their rpm sweet spot where it’s not overworking the saw.

So thanks to a very generous and passionate @Armbru84, he parted company with his XS3120.
After some minor assembly work to assist with shipping, I ran the saw on a mill with my 36" bar at the weekend. This was running 3/8 and 8 pin. Its fair to say no-one was disappointed.
We're currently awaiting delivery of Cannon 72" super bar.
Thanks again to all to get us to this point. @Armbru84 ,@huskihl , @markds2

Did that saw even come off the limiter with that little bar? Bet she cut great.

Yes, it's fair to say it didn't struggle :)
Also learning a bit as we go with milling, so any tips and tricks, be free to send my way...
sharpen your chain often! Get a feel for how it cuts with a sharp chain. As soon as it looses that feel don’t push it, just touch it up again.
