Just curious if anyone has done this before or has seen one setup on a mill? I have 2 Contra's, just rebuilt the one in worse condition but it runs very well now (all new and NOS OEM parts). The other isn't currently running but it will be rebuilt using same parts for occasional use, but mainly display.

There is a collector who is looking to trade an MS880 in good condition with a choice of bars (25, 36, 47 with new chain) for a Contra or 070 or 090.

Thinking 880 would be better for milling, if only for parts availability, but I know the 1106 series are brutes for torque.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Flowering elbow on YouTube I believe uses one or at least used one at some time.
There are a couple other users who have used it as well. They are low rpm torque saws which are ideal for milling in my opinion. Last longer too.

Thanks, ya I'm partial to the old machines, and after rebuilding my 1st Contra as tedious as it was parts can be found. Also impressive how robust they are built by comparison to modern saws.

This is a good reason not to run it lol. Although it’s a great machine parts might be scarce. The issue with older equipment. However farmertec does make a clone of the unit. It would be worth the money IMO to purchase one new and far less expensive than a current 100cc saw. Their units I believe are 100cc’s or so…

I think the only issue milling is the way you fill it with fluids. Can’t add stuff mid cut like you can on an 088.

I bought a FT 070 kit and an oem 090 P&C for milling.

Hey doc if I remember right you got a ported 395? For some reason I sware I remember you had a 3120 too? Now you you got a ching ching 070 with a 090 p&c? Did you get a 090 clutch? Which would you rather kill with? I suspect a 395 would get a bod from me what you say?

Yup, have a 395 and 3120 both ported by @Moparmyway . I tried the 3120 with a muff mod/272 coil and a masterminded H adjust carb and it hade very little over the ported 395 (if anything at all). The 395 is just a beast. Then Kev ported the 3120 and it’s a monster. I probably wouldn’t have bought the 3120 if I knew they woulda been that close. The 395 can pretty much do anything and parts are cheap, unlike the 3120 where everything is pricey. I use the 395 for bucking now and the 3120 is the Miller.

The 070 kit saw and the oem P/C/Pin bearing are still in boxes. Never got around to the build. I didn’t get an 090 clutch yet, as it cost more than the entire saw kit. Maybe they will make a knockoff of that too one day.

As I understand it the Chinese 070 clutch won't hold much power or torque.

No man prefers a prostate exam even if it’s a pretty blond with big ones…
