It is quite discouraging and extremely disappointing when there is work to be done and no one is under 45 nor a direct descendant of the person You are helping out.

Fighting thorns and picking Blackberries/Raspberries was much more fun when I was a teen and the girl rewarded me for picking them for her.

Now I just pick a few and eat them........I did smile back in June when I took this picture in the pasture

Or young and too lazy to help. Little story, my son works 3 jobs, airport manager, coast guard reserves, owns marine repair business, captains license and moves larger boats for people. Gets a call from elderly couple he works on their boat and jet skies, wife asks if he come over and replace a battery, sure, grabs a battery and heads over to their place. 4 grandsons ages between 18-30 outside playing volleyball. My son says WTH, they can’t help you out, her reply is all are to lazy. Just come here to have fun.

20 some years ago I spent a lot of time getting ladders, basket lift (Trailer) paint, primer. airless etc. A few of us drove 100 or 200 miles (125for me with loaded truck and and lift trailer) To paint a fair sized 2 story house for our Aunt Rea .. we arrive about 8 AM and get a quick start. About noon we all pitch in for Pizza and one of my sisters call it in and it turns out this is where My aunt volunteers during seniors coffee time. (Aunt was recently widowed and her hubby was way up the ladder in State fire training). When she fetched the Pizza she had to explain why so many pizzas. The Pizza Parlor put it "ON THE HOUSE"
We are all out in the front yard eating and out comes her son in law and my cuzzen. Ready to eat None of us knew they were home and evidently hiding upstairs. When we all went back to painting son in law put his chair on the sidewalk out of the way and stated he hated painting, never helped a bit and he lived in the house. GRRR!!! he had to have been 40 plus yrs old then.
Fast forward 20 or so years my sister says she got a call. Says house needs Painting. Another sister talks with This Aunts other daughter and had understood Aunt Rea was going to the nursing home soon.
Aunt Rea is my "ZANY" Godmother and came into the family July 4 1959 and I was born August 25 1959. She still resides at the same nursing home but remembers very little. We have had family reunions for 65 consecutive years in the same park and finally missed the last 2 years due to her health.
Gist of this long winded post is it AIN'T only the young'ns that are Lazy. Her son in law is still part of the family but as any one can tell He has NOT impressed me.

Laziness, rudeness, and cheapness comes in all ages. I did a tractor engine rebuild for a guy that was supposed to in exchange paint a house for me. He not only never painted the house he stiffed me on some parts.

Was in the grocery store earlier tonight. I noticed the buggies have gotten a lot smaller than they were, oh say ten years ago or so.
Bad knee days, so I was riding the electric buggy. I've noticed the baskets on them have gotten larger.
I had $145 of stuff in the E-buggy basket and yet thought I was keeping it light, so that I wouldn't have to make 7~8 trips carrying stuff from the car to the house (the bum knees thing).

Just seems like the shopping carts have been shrinking as the prices go up.
I guess my thought here is.. Are they trying to keep the (shrinking) buggies at a size where most people won't get more than about $200~250~ish in them? for psychological/perception reasons perhaps?

Does seem BAAKERTZ. YA Go into a restaurant and the A/C is cranking to stimulate the appetite....soft music to lull you into buying more.
An ODD site in a wally world about a month ago A healthy looking guy bruising the aisle in an electric cart with a beat up skate board and ruff looking back pack. not much room for grocery.

Nope, the carts are getting smaller as the prices rise so You as a buyer still think You got a full cart worth of groceries for 200-250$!
