Maybe some decomposition heat there? Geothermal feature nearby? Maybe probe the ground with a thermometer 3ft down in and around the hole and see what you find. Sounds like an interesting project for whenever you have free time. Try a FLIR camera too. There might just be some chemical spill there (gas, alcohol, antifreeze, salt/fertilizer).

The water is ther all summer too. Its got green crap still growin.
Now one thing i do know is ther used to be a dump about 75 yards away. Many years ago befor my time. Now its all houses.
Not sure that has anything to do with it but possible.

Used the skidsteer to hog a path back to my woods.
While I was at it, I dug out my other trails in my open area so I could get the wheeler out and drag the kids around on a sled.

Oh, that’s my brothers shop. We had way more than that at our house and it’s all melted now... it felt like spring today.

I dont get why people try to save money on a sub-par clutch. Not exactly a pad slap type of deal!
