Negative ghost rider........ Never seen that. I'm going to guess there is another broken/bad ground somewhere in the main harness to cause that. Interested to see what you find.

Edit. Disregard. I miss read that you rulled out the harness. It's been a long day my bad.

This may be a better picture. You can see the main harness on the bottom coming into the plug and it doesn't have the heat the pump side of the wire does. I almost forgot my phone has FLIR built in. Hot spot in the middle has to be either a short or a cracked connector. You can see the length of the pins and the hot spot has to be right at the crimp. I hope that this is the problem that I have been fighting. Not a chance in the world I would spend $255 for that little harness. I'll check resistance on the pumps and backside of the plug tomorrow.

@Stevetheboatguy Played optimax mechanic again tonight. Ever seen a fuel pump plug do this? Internal to the plug and I never would have found it except for some reason I grabbed the plug tonight after running the diagnostic program and finding nothing. Only heating up on the wiring is on the pump side of the plug. That foot long wiring harness is over $250 retail. Ordered the pigtail repair harness for $11.

Poor terminal contact can cause that.
Perhaps at some point someone jabbed a probe into a terminal and opened it up causing the poor contact.
GM says that a connector is only good for 3 connections, and 1 is used up on assembly, before the terminals should be replaced to to this.
Nobody does it though until there's a problem.

Didn't know they considered a number of use before replace item. I did consider that it was the connection but the location with the FLIR shows it to be heating up in a different place that the pin and socket. Heating right below the crimp in this case. May try to pull the pins and have a look this morning.

The crimps on the terminals are subject to the same thing. Not tight enough or just a bit of corrosion and it will heat up.

I had a rebuilt wreck Malibu drive me bugshit the last few days.
Kept changing what it was doing.
On those, the battery ground goes to the chassis, then a separate cable from chassis to engine.
This is the chassis connection from the engine.
It was tight, but yet you can see it had been arcing.

Car would be fine for days. Then wouldn't start, lose communication with random modules, then act like a dead battery, then be fine again..

I went ahead and ordered the main harness connector as well. Tried to pull the pins but it had melted around them so I ground the plastic away to look at them. Seems to be the crimp that was the problem, pin connections looked to be good.

Sent my boss a picture this morning telling him its time for someone else to learn to do my job. Didn't go over too well. Oh well I'll be calling in when my shop building gets delivered in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah bosses don't like that kind of language, but too often they need a little constructive criticism.
