The Rat snakes are good to have around for rodent control. After you have a few mouse damaged projects, chewed air boots or wires, you'll be wanting the snakes around.
The worst damage for me, was having a damn mouse get in my tool box and piss all over a drawer full of files. Ruined 'em of course.
Yeah, the little bastids "mark" everywhere they go.

I have no interest in handling snakes and I wouldn't want to absently mindedly reach into a box and grab ol' Mr snake.
So yeah, I sorta bump boxes and look before reaching in.
Small price to pay for the damage control they provide though!

The one in the pics was hanging on my house wall one night.
I'd been hearing something making the bush lightly scrape the window and I had gone out several nights trying figure just what the heck it was.

Finally got a look.
Sucker's got some pretty good traction going on in those mortar joints.
Rat snake wall 2.JPG Rat snake wall 1.JPG mmm, I decided it was a good time to go ahead and put the window screens back on for the summer.

Yes, and not just a magnet several magnets with different strengths to help gage “surface enhancers” thickness...my brother looked at a 67 Chevy pu, his favorite year, and the weak magnetic wouldn’t stick anywhere on the truck...and that magnetic would stick to areas with about 1/16 inch of filler and kinda hold with 1/18 inch the whole truck had no grab, it was scary and the strong magnetic verified thick filler in many places.

You fellows would likely be gape jawed to know just how much "bog" (body filler aka Bondo to us inlanders) is floating there.

Open the link and click that aerial shot of the marina. Bodacious!
I spent half a summer working in a bit of the upfit fiddley bits that the wealthy like on their yachts (oh, do... not... mess up and call it a "boat")
Worked for a, small, metal contractor (bout 6~7 guys), that worked out of the marina primarily.

We had a door to scratch build and install on a 120-something foot floating mansion.
only 120+ feet long?
Yeah, a bit on the smaller side ("more nimble and less draft. soooo handy in the islands, thank you").
Anyhoo. Laid out the desired points to drill for the locking rod pockets (cool door design! gonna have a hand wheel like a vault door, with three rods that slide out to hold it shut).
Proceed to drill first pilot/probe hole and the bit bites a little, then skids down the side of metal.
aw crap. But I had been forewarned and this was why I doing a bit of test drilling.
What looked like a 5~6" thick wall was about 1/3 "bog" there.
Hmm, might have to revise the door measurements a smidge it seems.
We worked things out in the end though.

Wish I had pictures, but just ended up in Fla on whim one day and the next few months just flew by.
Just kinda got caught up in the day-to-day and never went and tracked down that (much preferred) Fuji film in those 110 cartridges of the era.
Still sorta keep in touch with the Fla "girl" though.

Black snakes are the bomb Wayne. Good rodent control and they will keep the poisonous snakes away. Only trouble I have is seeing the 5-6 ft son of a guns hanging and half scaring me to death LOL!!

That one was right outside the front door. Then it slithered up the siding lol. They planted corn across the street this year so mice will be plentiful.

Could be a good berry year but between the chickens, chipmunks and birds I’ll probably get robbed. Apache thornless blackberries, they can get huge. The 2 in my hand are average size. Long bearing season also.

I ‘helped’ pick blackberrys as a child with the neighbor lady and my mother in St. Louis county.

Definitely made a dent in their harvest.

Mother would make several pies and jars of preserves from the haul.

Those berry patch’s were turned into housing developments by the mid ‘60s. [emoji21]
