Added 5 gallons today. Have 5 more from today currently. 8 taps with gallon jugs. I need bigger collection containers, more storage containers a few more taps and bigger burner for next year!

What's all that nonsense underneath? Whew...were they making moonshine when they built that?
Not sure what you mean. I’m sure they hand excavated and poured the foundation... which is why they stepped it down like that, to save concrete. Then they put in stem walls to fill in between the rim joist and foundation... basically very short walls between the floor and foundation. Not how I would do it, but not uncommon when building on slopes.

Like this, only more crudely done, and without footings or reinforcement (rebar)...

Got the footings cleaned out... took a while. :nut:

12x12 footings all the way around the perimeter, and we will wet set the first row of block to get everything set at the right height, and 12x12 piers 4.5’ OC for the 4x6 girders to sit on. Floor joists will be 2x8 Douglas Fir, 16” OC.

There should be about 24” of height in the crawl space when we’re done. It’s also going to be tied into (what there is of) the existing foundation, and I’m adding extra concrete and rebar to beef it up as much as possible... without tearing it out completely.

One good thing about going from a hip roof to trusses, is that the crappy part of the foundation will no longer be load bearing... but I still don’t want it to move at all.

Are permits pricey?
They tried to charge me for a new house permit and I about shiit myself, as they wanted $3,600. When I went back to pick it up they had refigured it as a remodel w/ addition and it was actually $1000. Plus a few other small local fees.

That’s not bad at all, they tac on an extra school tax here $1.25 sq /f , it adds up. Always good to know the inspectors, they are great around here!
