Two things in this picture.
#1 my new OBS f250, it's a 1990 1 owner, rust free and only 90,000 miles!
#2 nice load of ash

My wife and kids like to name my stuff.
New trucks name is Elmer.
Elmer laugh's and says load of wood, what load of wood?

No obvious leaks?
The new Dex-cool coolant typically does not smoke much out the tailpipe but has a distinct odor.
Head gasket failures are very uncommon.
Broken heater pipe fittings are common.
Has the temp been colder than normal? Had some that froze the coolant and sheared the water pump impeller.

Fill it up. If you dont have a pressure tester, run it and look for leaks. Have someone inside to watch the temp guage.

Dont waste time pulling the plugs unless you plan to replace them at this time.
I didnt notice much smell but at that point it probably had almost straight water in it. I'll add some Prestone extended life and try it tomorrow. I'll check the dip stick again for coolant also. Where is the heater pipe fitting you talk of?
I wouldnt rule out broken water pump yet either. I did have a hose clamp fail on it this past summer and I cant remember if I just filled it with water and called it good or if I added coolant later. Hard to recall, hope that's not the case. It wasnt colder than normal recently. Early in the week it was in the teens though.... more to follow.

Slightly off center towards passengers side. 2 hoses connect to plastic fittings that like to crack. At firewall.
T fittings if you have rear Hvac.

Found them, its not it. I did find a big leak though from the radiator. Passanger side down near the inlet hose from the thermostat. Looks like a beotch to get to. Too bad I found the leak after I added that gallon of coolant. Itll probably be on the ground in the morning. 20190105_190820.jpg

At least the radiator is easy to replace.

As long as the front bumper cover doesnt have to come off. Then I agree. Doesnt look like it does. I see the ends of the radiator are plastic. Maybe i didnt put coolant back in or enough when i replaced the hose clamp this summer. It could have froze earlier this week when it was in the teens and just leaked enough to run hot. Either way, looks like it's coming out tomorrow. Looks like it has a trans cooler in it also. Hopefully it's something stupid simple like another hose clamp but I doubt it. Might have to get a used one at the junkyard. I hope there are no 6.0L or 6.2L engines in the yard. One might follow me home.

Those constant tension clamps have been known to crack and then leak.
Often its on the bottom and cant see the break without a mirror.
Double check it, you might just need a new hose clamp! Hopefully thats all it is.
Good to know. I'll try to get pliers on it and unclamp it and move it. If it falls apart then bingo. The other one that failed this summer was on the neck of the thermostat housing and was a threaded type. Looked like it was over torqued, stretched and broke.

I have a Deutz-Allis 5230.
http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/003/1/6/3161-deutz-allis-5230.html

The guy selling the backhoe is a fabricator. He put some work into it. Made a quick attach frame on the hoe and a subframe for his tractor. Thst way you could back into it, drop on pin and go. It's not going to work for my tractor so hes going to put the 3 pt stuff back on but I get to keep the steel. All new hoses and all the pins were shimmed. Tight machine.
