Never would have guessed it would have been that solid internally.

Not only could it be solid, it could also be very nicely grained.
During one of the big storms they had back in 2010 or so when I was in Oregon, a 4' wide fir trunk showed up on the banks of a friends bayou.
After cutting into it, I could see all manner of awesome colors in the grain from it being submerged for years.
I asked him if he wanted to use it for some building projects. He says, 'Nah - firewood'. :(
To date, the most beautiful grained conifer I had ever seen that wasn't burled.

That reminds me of a show I used to watch on Discovery. Dude had an old military boat DDA powered. He would go around winching up submerged logs from years gone by. Crazy he was and enjoyed watching him work.
BTW if someone remembers the name of that show message me. I'm due for some good belly laughs. Thx!!

I was a little surprised myself! This is that log 5 years ago in the snow, you can see how slow that little tree growsD961FFF6-6F4F-4405-87C3-0DE496DDF09E.jpegThat big log is red arrow, that little tree in yellow1C278473-B88E-4226-83D1-9F9E5C730958.jpeg

And you can see where the last storm rolled that log up to, completely on the other side of that little tree and up on top of the rocks we put in place as a blockadeB375970E-8708-4A10-9CF7-B793D3426E25.jpeg

This is a big red oak that fell a 20 years ago in a tornado and laid in the creek till this spring. There was some rot but most of it was solid, good wood. Got two piles that size from the one log.

He is my shadow and I love it!
Her operates the splitter handle for me. Make sure your hands are on the side of the logs at all times, never on top!

A big king tide rolled several logs up onto some beach properties, had to clean some up! Sand embeded in the world sucks!!! There was one large for that had been there for 20+ years, I have no idea how long except for I’ve seen it there 20 years ago… The wood was still dry and solid in the middle, kind of crazy. I will get some pictures tomorrow of one of the other logs View attachment 277243 View attachment 277244 View attachment 277245View attachment 277247 View attachment 277246

Now I'm curious as to which one of your saws you used to cut up the log?

Gonna need a boat to get through tomorrow?
I’m not sure what I’m gonna be able to do tomorrow! Couple the roads are going to be blocked and the hardware store is closed they have the doors all block hit it off and the palms ready in case we get an extreme flood!

Used a 660, freshened up the bottom with new OEM bearings seal, So I’ve been kind of favoring it to put some time on it and get everything broke in and tuned in. Had previous done some machine work and porting on it it runs good, holding a tune really well, Been playing around with the timing advance, trying to get that set up where I’m happyB958B8DB-5DB6-4174-8F00-208ABB528202.jpeg
Have it on the bench to sharpen the chain
