That's sad
I've ran the number on those and Ive seen what a cammed 4.8 would achieve.
I probably won't put more than fuel oil and air in to this bucket. View attachment 276629
Peak power is similar, but bottom end power is not there with a 4.8, they look great on the Dyno but real world not so much, I am not that impressed with my 5.3 in my 03 Silverado it’s not like it’s a powerhouse, Plus you have a lot of parts to swap out to convert to a gym 3/4 small block, a Vortech 350 is literally a bolt in,Headers are off the shelf , super easy swap, A GEN 3/4, takes quite a bit more work to put in, and unless you do a cam swab headers and tune I don’t think it’s even worth it. GEN 3 truck motors are more revers especially in the 4.8/5.3 displacement, imho.
Have you drove a cammed 4.8? With your fire speed it would probably be a lot of fun! But you’d have to wind the piss out of it, most of the canned four point eights I’ve seen peek out at 65 to 7000 RPM and make 400hp, but only mid 350lbs of torque, the vorech 350 with flat tops makes 400-420lbs of torque, more displacement usually makes more torque, 4.8 is cool, just not tons of torque, that a truck likes.
