I saw Jeff hitting the delete button for something on your phone when you weren't looking Dan. Now we know what THAT was....

So I pulled the muffler to open it up more on Ryan’s saw and found this...

I don’t think it’s worse than before but I can’t be sure. After discussing with my saw Bro, the scratches in the bore from cleaning it up look like they are a bit coarse, though undetectable with a pic. So I ordered a new piston which I should have done in The first place, and I’m going to spend some more time in that bore.
No way in hell can I send out a saw that looks like that. I don’t know what I was thinking putting that back in...[emoji35]
I’ll use it in one of my test builds in the future.

In my understanding, good piston wash that helps indicate a good state of tune will have a bit of clean piston crown most of the way around the outer circumference of the piston with larger areas of clean (wash) adjacent to the transfers.

It's not the end-all be-all, but it does help give us the whole picture. Piston wash is relative to combustion chamber temps, richer condition-cooler temps-more washed piston crown. Conversely the opposite is true in a lean condition.

I would think that oil type and ratio plays a factor as well. I don't claim to be an expert, just wanted to bounce some ideas off ya.

Makes sense!
From looking at the plug and knowing where I had it tuned, I don’t think it was lean at all.
I was running klotz benol. Great lube but burns super dirty! I’d bet if I had Amsoil in there wash would be barely perceptible at 1-1/2 tanks.

Yes Sir! I run Maxima 927 castor oil in my 250r's and it does burn dirtier than the synthetics in that way. Given that info, you are probably just fine.

Edit: after taking a look at your piston pics on my laptop as opposed to my phone, that black doesn't really have the look of fuel carbon but more of oil deposits. I think you are exactly right.

Now before we get off on an oil thread tangent... LOL! :D

I would bet those marks on the piston haven't changed but I know what you mean about wanting to send someone a first rate product and wanting everything to be perfect... The struggle is real my friend!
